What does Authorised Representative mean?
An authorised representative is an EU-based natural or legal person mandated by the manufacturer.
The concept matters across EU product regimes because manufacturers outside the EU cannot always perform all single-market obligations directly. The exact mandate depends on the applicable act and on the written appointment. An authorised representative is neither an importer nor a notified body; manufacturer responsibility remains.
Why does it matter for DPP and compliance?
For DPP obligations, responsibility must be clear: who creates the passport, maintains data, responds to market surveillance and keeps technical documentation available? An authorised representative can be part of this governance but does not automatically replace all manufacturer obligations.
What should teams prepare?
Companies should document mandates, contact points, data access and escalation paths. In Nulara projects, authorised representatives belong in role and approval models, not only in imprint or master-data fields.
