What does EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) mean?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a Type III declaration with verified LCA data.
EPDs are based on LCA methodology, product category rules and independent verification. ISO 14025 defines Type III environmental declarations; for construction products, EN 15804 is the central European basis for comparable indicators and life-cycle modules.
Why does it matter for DPP and compliance?
An EPD is not the same as a DPP. It can be a high-quality data source inside the product passport, especially for carbon footprint, resource use and life-cycle modules. The DPP manages access, freshness and context around that data.
What should teams prepare?
Teams should not treat EPDs as PDF attachments. Relevant metrics, validity, programme operator, PCR, version and verification status should be referenced structurally in the product passport.
