What does Ecodesign mean?
Ecodesign builds sustainability requirements into product design and life cycle.
Under ESPR, ecodesign can cover durability, repairability, energy and resource efficiency, recyclability, substances, recycled content and environmental footprint. The regulation is a framework; concrete duties arise product group by product group through delegated acts and are prioritised through the ESPR Working Plan.
Why does it matter for DPP and compliance?
The DPP is the information layer for many ecodesign requirements when the applicable delegated act requires it. What is improved in the product must then become visible in data fields, evidence, access layers and consumer or authority information.
What should teams prepare?
Product teams should not wait until a delegated act arrives to translate ecodesign into compliance. Design features such as replaceability, repair instructions, material choice, recycling route, substance restrictions and environmental footprint should be planned early as structured product data.
