What does REACH mean?
REACH governs registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals in the EU.
REACH does not only affect chemical companies. It applies to substances on their own, in mixtures and in some cases in articles. Manufacturers, importers and suppliers need to manage registrations, restrictions, authorisations, safety data sheets and SVHC communication duties; Candidate List SVHCs above 0.1 percent weight by weight in articles trigger Article 33 information duties.
Why does it matter for DPP and compliance?
DPP fields on substances, material composition, safe use, dismantling and recyclability can interact with REACH and SCIP data when an ESPR delegated act requires those data points. A product passport does not replace REACH registrations or SCIP notifications, but should use the same reliable substance data foundation.
What should teams prepare?
Teams should structurally connect bills of materials, supplier declarations, safety data sheets, Candidate List versions, SVHC thresholds, SCIP IDs, article hierarchies, product variants, access levels and review workflows. This lets the product passport expose substance information for the right audience without duplicating compliance evidence.
